The Town of Mountain Village is undertaking an extensive re-addressing project in order to align all addresses with the newly adopted addressing standards and to improve the 911 response time. As a Town, we must maintain consistency and clarity with our addressing system for public safety.
In 2024, the Town of Mountain Village will begin an extensive re-addressing project in certain neighborhoods to align all addresses with the Town’s recently adopted addressing standards and to improve 911 response time.
The re-addressing effort is expected to affect only 110 addresses and 839 units (which includes two hotels and two apartment complexes). This project will be rolled out slowly over the course of a few years in a phased approach, with the Town's addressing coordinator working through a handful of neighborhoods at a time. The addressing coordinator will also be able to adjust the program throughout this phased approach if necessary.
Phase 1 of the re-addressing efforts is divided into four groups and will occur throughout most of 2024. Subsequent phases and address groups will be shared with the community as Group 4 nears completion of its re-addressing efforts.

Each group will be contacted by the Town's addressing coordinator when it is time to begin their re-addressing efforts. All property owners will receive a comprehensive information packet , and the Town will be offering rebates to go toward the costs of re-addressing their homes.

Group 1- Boulders Way, Prospect Plaza & Coyote Court (nearing completion) Due to inconsistent numbering and property location, all homes on Boulders Way, Coyote Court and units in Prospect Plaza must be re-addressed.

Reasons: Inconsistent numbering system Group 2- Fairway Four & Northstar (will begin in July 2024) All units in Fairway Four and Northstar will be reassigned with a new street name and re-numbered to match addressing standards:

Roads leading up to NorthStar and Fairway Four should have their own names, not be off of Adams Ranch Road These are mutli-unit and multi-building properties that should have their own addresses instead of unit numbers The Town will host a re-addressing informational meeting on Tuesday, June 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall for residents of Fairway Four and NorthStar to learn more about the process.
If your HOA would like to participate in choosing your own street name, please work together to reach a consensus within your community and submit the proposed name to the addressing coordinator at least 48 hours prior to the informational session on June 11. The proposed name must be agreed upon by at least 60% of the residents to be considered. The HOA would need to manage its own process for coming to an agreement with its members. If we don’t receive a proposed street name, or if the street name proposed doesn’t meet our standards, the Town will provide 3 names (pre-approved by the addressing coordinator) for consideration and the name will be voted on at the informational session on June 11. All residents and HOAs on file with the Town have been contacted with this information.

Reimbursement Rebate Form The Town is offering reimbursements for changing an address due to re-addressing.
For freestanding address monuments, the town will cover up to $200.
For address identification numbers on the building, the town will cover up to $25.
Once the materials have been purchased and installed, the reimbursement form can be uploaded through the rebate form below.
The rebate requires proof of purchase through invoices or receipts. Pictures showing the completion of the monument/sign installation are also required for the request form to be considered.
The reimbursement may cover the cost of the numbers on the sign or materials for the base and the cost of labor if it is invoiced from a licensed business. It does not include the cost of lighting or utilities installation.
The form may only be filled out after the work is complete.

My address is listed above, what should I be doing right now? If your property is on the list of affected properties, please fill out the contact information form so that our re-addressing coordinator may reach out to you. Read through the materials on this webpage to familiarize yourself with the project. Please wait to receive an official notice in the mail from the Town before initiating an address change. Why is this process necessary? The 911 system used in San Miguel County has a very specific way of identifying and directing first responders to addresses. When an address falls out of the standard addressing (for example, even numbers on one side/odd numbers on another), it can delay response time and risk people’s lives.
The address number was assigned incorrectly. The number does not fit in with the Town numbering system. (Not in sequential order to surrounding numbers.) The number is odd when it should be even or vice versa. (For generally north-south roads, odds are to the west, evens to the east. For generally east-west roads, odds are to the north, evens to the south.) The property is addressed on a street name that does not comply with our addressing standards; etc or is repeated elsewhere in the County. Do I need to contact my tenants? Yes. It is imperative that all people living on the property are aware of the address change in case of an emergency and to change their mailing address if applicable.
Will the Town help pay for the new address monument? Yes. The Town will reimburse homeowners up to $25 for numerals mounted on homes, and up to $200 for freestanding address monuments will be allotted for reimbursement. Receipts must be submitted with a completed reimbursement form to receive payment.
What happens if i don’t change my address as requested? The owner will receive a reminder and final notice of the change in the mail & on the property. Additionally, in accordance with CDC Section 17.1.8.J, the Town can issue an appropriate fine per day that a violation exists.
What about my mail? The Town will notify the United States Postal Service (USPS) of these changes and automatically update its address database within two weeks, linking together the old and new addresses. As a result, mail sent from the old address will be forwarded to the new address seamlessly through the USPS.
The United States Post Office takes about two weeks to change the address in their system. However, they will have both the old and new addresses available during the 60 days post re-addressing. Your two addresses will be linked in the USPS system for one full year.
Google/Apple maps can find my address just fine so why do I need to change it? This is because the 911 addressing system does not rely on Google Maps and uses their own method for identifying locations. Often, third-party mapping software such as Google Maps does not display addresses correctly as well.
The Town has adopted a very specific method of addressing (which can be found in our standards below) that allows first responders to not second guess where they are going in an emergency.
How long will the process take? The packet each property owner will be sent outlines a 60-day transition period.
What do I do about my utilites? The Town will automatically change your address with its water/sewer billing system, as that is the only utility the Town manages/provides to residents.
The Town will do its best to contact service providers and notify local businesses of this change, but ultimately, it is up to you, the property owner, to change the address on the associated accounts. The Town is not authorized to make the change for property owners within these accounts. Do I need to update the title to my property with my new address? It is not required. The Title company does not need to be notified, they insure the legal description, not the address. If there is an “aka address” listed in the legal description, the official re-addressing notice will serve as an "aka letter" that states the legal description of the property which was formerly know as (old address) is know known as (new address). Property owners will have the letter sent in their packet, which states all of this, but if they need one specifically addressed to an entity, we can provide that.
